'Three Postludes' for solo marimba (5 oct.)
Prices are in Australian Dollar (AUD).
Three Postludes is a short collection of miniature improvisations created throughout 2025 during my time in Germany . In Detmold, the percussion department building stands alone amid a large beautiful garden. Practicing here each day, with its large glass windows looking out into nature, was very inspiring. Each practice session would end with an improvised reflection - these selected three were of particular emotional significance and capture specific moments in time.
Postlude no. 1 - Yoanna came about from the homesick cold winter nights spent in solitude. Its title comes from the name given to the marimba in which I improvised on, which sits in a room with windows where you can watch the snowfall whilst playing.
Postlude no. 2 - When the Leaves Turn was the first improvisation I made upon settling in to Germany . As the title suggests, it was inspired by the multitude of warm colours that the leaves adopt during autumn, and then again with an entirely new palette in the spring. This improvisation used to be more melancholic, but over time adopted a more optimistic tone as I settled in to my new environment.
Postlude no. 3 - One of Many Afternoons was completed upon returning home and visiting my grandparents. Some of my fondest childhood memories were made in their house, and upon visiting again - despite living abroad and all of adult life’s various ups and downs - I found myself as that same child once more.
This piece is dedicated to my grandparents, Mary and Raymond.
Difficulty: Intermediate
Duration: Each Postlude is approximately 3 minutes in duration. They can be performed individually, or as one work in three movements.
These three pieces can be listened to on all major streaming platforms, released as an EP titled ‘Postludes from Palaisgarten’.
