'Quiet Mind' - Quartet for bowed vibraphone

$40.00

Prices are in Australian Dollar (AUD).

Quiet Mind is a piece written for four percussionists, each using bows on the vibraphone. In my
opinion, bowed vibraphone is one of the most beautiful and pure sounds that exists in modern
music; the epitome of peace and serenity. I often find myself being swarmed by many buzzing
thoughts and voices in my head, struggling to find which is the most important one to focus in
on. But by centring myself and delving deep within my mind, I enter a place of tranquility and
silence. This is what that silence sounds like.

It is possible to perform this piece on a standard 3 octave vibraphone. All notes that exist outside the range of this instrument can be transposed upwards.

Quiet Mind was premiered in Defying Gravity Percussion Ensemble’s ‘Steve Reich’s Drumming’
concert on the 19th of September, 2019 at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts. This piece was also premiered by Mannheimer Schlagwerk in Germany in June 2022.
